Gary,
I did what you suggested and it works well, the "advertising" content is displayed just as I want it to, except there is one problem, only the first advertisement is always displayed unless I choose for more than one news article to be displayed. I would like to display only one advertisement at a time, but have more than one out there. The only other solution I came up with is having a category for each advertisement. Is it possible to have FarCry randomly choose an article to display?
Thank you!

Hello Nick,
My suggestion would be to NOT create a new type in this instance (seeing
that the only difference is that you don't want an expiration date).
I would suggest the following:
* create up a category for your advertising news
* get the content creators to ensure they always add the advertising
news into the "advertising" category and also to NOT put on an expiry
date
* just use the existing news rule for your containers - but filter on
the "advertising" category
Remember, you could even have advertising sub-categories as well.
If you are wanting "external" people to place advertising items, then
you would simply need to build your own interface into your site that
gathered the data you want in a form and then create the news item
yourself by instantiating a dmNews object and filling in the blanks from
the data in your form (and forcing it into the right category).
Make sense? And, better still, you don't have to actually do much work
(none if you are just letting the admin people create them). And, don't
forget that you can restrict the Admin interface way down (using
permissions) so that your advertising people can't do much except add
news (which can still be controlled through approval).
Regards,
Gary Menzel
