Pages are taking between 10 and 20 seconds to load, and there are over 300 pages, so flushing the whole site is not optimal - especial during the upload pahse when pages are been added/editted all the time.
And like you say, the cache can be flushed from the admin section if required.
Hmmm, if a nav node is added, the menu cache will need to be flushed - editting wont matter.
Have you optimised the database. 10-20secs is totally unacceptable timeframe for a naked page to be loading. It would have to be an exceptionally complex page to require such a timeframe for loading.
It is important to note that FarCry base install does absolutely no database optimisation. There is a technote on appropriate indices and the like within the system. I strongly encourage anyone with a serious deployment to read the technote:

We're looking at implementing some basic indices in the next revision of the installer. However, the COAPI deliberately uses a relational model so that folks can tune their datastore and leverage the features of their chosen RDBM.
If you have got optimisations in place, we would be very keen to see what your set up is like -- certainly we have never experienced anything like the load time you are describing.
