Ahoy, I've already written elsewhere about relevant news for UK free culture types (see links below), but here is a bit more for FC-UK.
FC4S - lots of people liked the idea of our student mailout. They had contemplated something similar in the US but it never got off the ground. Eric Steuer (CC Creative Director) was very keen to make it a big thing internationally. No definite pledges yet but I'm sure we'll get some help here. I suggest that for now I collect deliveries of freebies and we could do a packing day in Reading at an open media lab. Group Guide - Our US counterparts were impressed and seemed interested in collaborating where it makes sense. Of course ours will have UK quirks but in general we can share a lot more info. Not sure how best to proceed here, maybe get some cross-subscribing on lists? Creative Archive - of relevance to their license, it looks like the 3.0 versions of the CC licenses will include something like the CA clause against endorsement, which leaves the CA with one silly clause left to get rid of. Newsletter - Daniela Faris is keen to get it going on the iCommons wiki, and to get lots more people adding content from around the world. I would *really* appreciate somebody else volunteering to lead this for the moment as I just don't have the time to do it myself this month. You just need to talk to Daniela about setting up a structure of wiki pages, move our existing content from previous months across, then start soliciting content for the August edition and perhaps a late July edition. Governance - of interest to everyone involved in the wrangling over FC-UK's governance structure, there was a brief debate at the end of the summit. I've got an article forthcoming that addresses these issues, and it would be good if everyone in FC-UK could vocally/visibly join in the debate to steer iCommons in a more legitimate direction.
