Actually, "hwcp" also has an optional syntax variant as
"(hwcp1,hwcp2,...)" in some issues of DISPLAY.SYS. Please
see the DISPLAY.SYS API stuff I posted recently into the
list, or refer to the KBD.LST file I sent you.

This extension would be needed in areas where more than one
hardware codepage is used, for example in the Middle East.
Search RBIL or KBD.LST for Arabic or Hebrew MS-DOS for
more details on this.

Not for DISPLAY.SYS, but for PRINTER.SYS it can be PRN:, LPT1:,
LPT2: LPT3:, (LPT4:).

One could at least think of having multiple console drivers residing
concurrently in a system, say CO80: and BW80: connected to different
video systems and screens, and "CON" dynamically assigned to the
default video system, just as PRN: is dynamically assigned to the
default printer (usually LPT1:) and AUX: is assigned to the default
auxilary device (usualy COM1:).
At least in the case of a dual screen VGA+HGC system, such a driver
is extremely easy to set up, see for example, Axel's DUALMON.SYS driver,
which is part of the FreeDOS distribution.
For multiple VGAs or other multi-monitor systems it's more complicated,
but still possible - after all, the console device drivers is a rather
abstract device.
However, in this case, we'd need a parameter to tell DISPLAY.SYS to
which console device driver it should attach to.

Greetings,

 Matthias
