Hi, same as what Tom said about another issue short time ago:
You are overdoing things!
- Dos programs hardly ever use graphics mode to draw text
- Then will not read text from the screen using the BIOS in such cases
- If they do, being unable to read characters that are left over from
  before a font change after that font change is a very exotic error
  scenario.

You should better not bother supporting all that. As long as you update
int 0x43 in graphics mode on a font change you already have done far more
than one would expect from your software normally.
