I think, you are overinterpreting my comments. ;-)

I just try to remain as accurate as possible, whilst apparently some
prefer to skip over potential problems.

The original question (in a private discussion thread) was a more
general one, it was not related to the actual implementation.

Since we can use .CPI files from various sources already (which
do have variations in the shapes), these are no new problems, but
apparently we all could live well with these issues when they occured.

So, it is probably wise to /know/ about them (so that the character
definitions within one .CPI file are based on the same font - not
necessarily the case, when existing .CPI files are patched rather
than created from scratch), and certainly this had to be part of
a conscientious answer to the original question, but nevertheless
alternative typefaces such as "THIN", "LCD", etc. do already exist.
There's no problem with that. I never said anything to the contrary.

Correct (because it's very slow), but sometimes they do. It depends
on what video mode the user selects, not - usually - the program.

How do you know this? It's certainly unlikely to happen, because the
conditions are unlikely. But just as well, it's possible, hence it
must be taken into account first.

Most error scenarios are not obvious, otherwise they would have been
taken into account in the first place. ;-)
