Thanks, Bill. That's helpful perspective.

Hi Bill,
I didn't look at Ext JS specifically, but included it in the
category of javascript libraries, of which there are several good
ones. I decided to go the flex route rather than the html/css/
javascript route for several reasons, one of which is because I'm a
big fan of the ability to define UI components declaratively (in
MXML) while handling events programmatically. This keeps the amount
of code necessary to build an application small, making maintenance
easier down the road. Of course, flex also provides a large UI
component library and a convenient development environment which
speeds initial development.

Thank you, Bill.
This is very interesting and your impressions are very much
appreciated.
I'm curious if you considered Ext JS (http://extjs.com/) and if so
what your impressions were.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Gert,
An initiative that I'm currently working on is aimed at replacing
the current Swing-based administrative interface with a web-based
alternative. You can read more about the planned features and see a
mockup here: http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/x/XoF9. The
technology selected for implementation is Adobe Flex, the code for
which is written in MXML and Actionscript. I wrote up some of my
thoughts as I was doing tool comparisons here: http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/x/HgJ2
if you're interested. In the end we decided to go with Flex
because it provides a powerful development environment which takes
care of cross-browser concerns and because Adobe's Flash player (on
which Flex applications run) is widely available.

Hi,
I have noticed that mxml is now in use in the development work. Can
some one elaborate on the considerations behind this choice, thank
you.
Best,
Gert
