Hi Fiona Using a non-UTF8 database is likely to cause issues with certain characters.
For example, if you ingest an object with a DC datastream (as inline XML) with a dc:title or dc:description containing certain characters you are likely to see problems. You should be able to test this with characters such as ê (e with circumflex), or Greek (eg Θ - capital Theta) and Cyrillic (eg Ж - capital Zhe) characters. This only applies to values that are stored in the SQL database, which is mostly object and datastream properties, labels and descriptions, and the DC datastream.
