Welcome to the world of overediting.  I must have cut the line earlier where he 
figured out how to do the rift thing.  There was a lot of stuff that I juggled 
trying to demonstrate they were slowly learning their human counterpart's 
stuff, climaxed at the scene when Nakor tells Miranda to stop trying and just 
do it.  It was sort of his Yoda moment.
