Another example of that is what the studios are doing with Max Brooks' "World War Z". The book is written as a post-apocalyptic journey in documentary style, but the movie is being made with.. *shudder* Brad Pitt as the star. So, of course, the movie is now all about how Mr Pitt attempts to save the entire world by himself.

So we will completely change the substance of the characters and the tone of book and make something completely different. For some reason they don't feel that that they need the fans to watch/buy the movie/TV show etc or that these fans are not going to jump on the internet and trash the production to everyone they can. I get that when changing the story format from print to live action that changes have to be made, but in my view there is never a reason to change the tone of the story or the substance of the characters. The recent productions of Terry Practchett's books and Game Of Thrones is proof of how wrong this attitude can be. Regarding the Legend of the Seeker show, Sam Raimi and Terry Goodkind came to an agreement (more from Terry, I believe) to create the TV series with very basic affiliations to the books. Terry felt that he has created the books to the degree that they have, and did not want the show to ruin the integrity of the books, the same way Harry Potter is different from the novels to the movies. I sincerely hope that something does come through from Ray's works. More like the GoT series, and true to the stories we have read.
