A-yup Ray has a good point - two other pieces of advice that I give

1) Don't COUNT - don't start counting like a ledger what each person does.
It's for the relationship that counts

2) Remember that person next to you? She's your best friend. She is the one
who will be there after the roof is fixed, when the kids are sick and when
the kids go and have lives of their own. That is the person who will be
there. Always remember that besides yourself, your partner is the ONLY
person you can count on - no matter what. Treat each other accordingly. Oh
and when you have kids, even at 2 - 1, you are severely outnumbered

Oh and laugh, A LOT - especially in bed
