John,I ordered A Kingdom Beseiged from that place down by REFs that he always
does signings at (Mysterious Gallery I think). I met Ray when he was on tour
for Shards of Broken Crown, so I also got 11 of his paperbacks signed at the
time as well as the first edition of Shards. The rest I either bought at full
price or on discount, usually at Barnes & Noble. Chris

Lol I need to get to a signing. I'm collecting them as I find then but none are
lucky enough to be signed.

First editions (in the UK at least) seem to have become some kind of cynical
money making ploy.

"buy this first edition, its got a special cover and collectors card of which
no others will ever be issued to make them collectable. Btw, its 4 x as much"

I used to love getting first editions but I don't even know if we get them here
now. Certainly pre-ordering doesn't get you one.

They do have an extra value, but, thankfully Ray hasn't qualified his for that
value increase yet!

I don't think I've got any signed by Ray, although I have them all, but I do
have some signed Terry Pratchett and Trudi Canavan.

[OT-ish] First Editions

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been as active as I was on this list, but I just got back from
a deployment and I've bought a house. One of the tasks that I've started on
this weekend was getting all mine and my gf's books in one place and sorting
them and building bookshelves
 etc.

The question I'm wanting to ask though, is the relative importance of First
Editions in formats other then the hard cover book. I have a number of
paperbacks as well that are first editions, and I'm wondering if they have any
inherent value on the secondary
market like the first edition in hard back.

And just in case anyone is wondering, I have seven of REFs in First Edition
hard covers, two of which I have signed. I also have 11 of his paperback
signed, but none of them are first editions. I also happen to have a first
edition of The Silmarillion by JRR
 Tolkien.

Thanks

Chris
