I am beyond tired of hearing people whine about women's roles in all topics of human life. These are fictitious stories and if they want a book all about strong women doing amazing things and saving the world, quit whining and write the book yourself. Besides, Magician is a book loosely based in a medieval setting, so how realistic would that be to make women a central force in all plot lines? Seriously, I have seen women's issues take a forefront to such a drastic state we are losing sight of what it is to be a man, and conversely what it is like to be a woman. Now, unless women are neck and neck with men in all story lines, in every employment position, and so on, we end up being accused of subjugation of all females and crap like that.
Reading that perpetually angry article, it was clear that writer has a grudge against men in general. The only books she liked were the ones placing women in the front of the plot, making them THE central figure. People like that need to get over themselves. I love women, but I have not blinded myself to believe we are both equal in all things. We never will be. But you don't hear men (REAL men, that is) whining if a woman gets ahead in any arena. If you want equality, you will never get it as a malcontent. So, there it is. One of he things I loved about Mr. REF's books is that female characters were strong. It kept with the times of old England but buffered up the women. Not all men were strong and not all women were weak. This is why both my husband and I were able to enjoy them and discuss them later. Critics will criticize and as my mother always said, "Opinions ar like A-holes. Everybody has one and theirs don't stink."
