You might want to check out ee.foundation.jar from OSGi. It contains an implementation of the package javax.microedition.io from Foundation. It is not necessarily complete (we use if for signature verification and compiltation) but with minor work, it could fulfil your needs. It will very soon be available from OSGi under Apache License 2.0 :-)

The download of the CLDC (the basis of all J2ME) refers to the Sun Community Source License (SCSL), which has been ruled as incompatible with ASF. IIRC, the SCSL doesn't make a distinction between binary usages and source usages, so this might be a problem. I am posting a on legal-discuss for clarification. Cheers Niclas
