Hi all,

I have a friend with lots of dogs with tile and she loves it too.  I'm talking about glazed ceramic tile and using a dark colored grout.  Definitely not white! lol.  Also, if you keep the grout sealed properly it is supposed to be impenetrable. I never really thought about tiling.  I wanted 'wood' floors, but I knew the cats would scratch them, and that if they did throw up on them or pee on them and I didn't find it right away it would ruin them.

I was thinking vinyl because it would clean so easily and be less trouble.  But I'm sure the cats would scratch it running and jumping all around.  That's why I was looking at the most expensive 'scratch proof' vinyl.

I've decided to go with the tile.  The man putting my tile in said it would take about 4 days to do the job, but that it would be ready for me to move in immediately.  He didn't say anything about waiting for it to 'set'.  And I specifically asked, because I was trying to decide whether to go ahead and move in or wait till the job was finished and then move.  I'll double check that.

I know you have to let it set for like 10 days before you can go back and seal it, but he said you could walk on it, etc...

My cats don't just 'pee' all over.  Right now I still have carpet in one room and that's where everyone pees.  No one has peed on my laminate (unless I put a rug down!), but it is ruined due to various leaks, spills, etc... and has been a total pain.  My laminate was put down in the little squares too. The man doing my tile says he NEVER recommends laminate. period.  If people want it he will do it, but he's seen too many problems with it and would never want it himself.

One thing about tile, Sheila, is you can easily do just one room at a time as you said.  Also,  I have another friend with cats that basically learned to lay tile herself.  If you have anyone handy like that tile is cheap!

I'm thinking a yellowish/greenish/brownish tile with pee-yellow grout? lol.  Nothing should show on that!!! ha!

What will most likely happen though, is the cats will just pee more on the sofa and my bed!  I'll have to buy a pretty new sofa and then keep it covered in plastic.  CATS!!!

My Sister put tile in her new house (22 cats) and she loves it. It will last forever and is easy to clean. My problem is I would have to move out with all my family while the work is being done. You can't walk on it for 2 or 3 days. If I could have one room at a time done and keep it closed till it sets, so kitties wouldn't have to be boarded out, that would be great. I think I'll check in to it.
