I'm not sure if notifying HSUS will do any good, they are not affiliated in any way with other humane societies. All humane societies are totally independent private non-profit organizations and there are many different philosophies among them. Some are non-kill (like mine) and some are not. Some routinely euthanise FIV and FeLV cats and some do not. Some euthanise just to make room for animals they consider "more adoptable".

That the Houston Humane Society euthanises FIV cats is not surprising to me but, the "advice" given to Angela by an organization, that was at the time, sitting in a position of perceived authority, was nothing short of criminal. Especially telling her that she had to give them the cat to be euthanised. I doubt you could get any criminal charges brought but, I do think it is civilly actionable against the HHS and the person that gave her the false information.

I emailed the executive director and voiced my opinion of this type of action, so far, no reply.

The way I read it was that she was told she HAD to give the cat up, not that
they recommended it. If I read it correctly the HSUS needs to be notified
also. Any way you look at it, the cat got a bum deal and so did her person. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Belinda Sauro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Tell her to contact her local media and see if they are interested
in doing a story. Organizations that want to play GOD need to be
reported, especially ones that received most of their funding from
animals lovers.

As far as I know the HSUS does not recommend automatically euthaization
of FIV positive cats (not positive of this though, but I do know someone
in Washington state that was shipped a FeLV positive from Louisiana by
one of the groups down there, not sure if it was the Humane Society or
not, but they looked around for a place to send it instead of
euthanizing it).
