I have had to put off spaying Bones as well. She JUST came into her first heat last week, and it only lasted 4 days. She meowed alot, and Pinky and Doobie were mounting her, but other than that, I don't think she was "stressed" about it. (All my males are neutered, but two of them don't seem to realize it). I am scared to have it done because of her broken back. She seems to be fully healed, and I even gave her her very first bath yesterday (something else I was putting off because I thought she might struggle and re-injure her back). I guess I need to make a decision... she's either healed... or not. She really seems fine though. The boys did tear up her poor neck, biting her scruff, it had a few sores, but I washed it and they all healed, and the scabs came off already. Anyways, not much help to you, but at least you know you are not the only one putting off a spay for one reason or another. When they do a spay, they put the cat on her back on a hard metal table, and they tie them spread eagle by all four paws and pull them very taunt on the table. That can't be good on a cat with a bad back. That's my issue.

I never spayed Moogie (my FELV+ that died). She never came into heat either, I think she was just too weak, her body never really matured enough to go through a heat. She was 18 months old when she died, never spayed, never heated either. If I had another FELV+ female, I would opt NOT to spay at all. Like I said, all my males are neutered, so it's not really a big concern.
