Metamucil is available here over the counter, it's a fiber supplement for humans. If you go with that, look for the unflavored kind. Psyllium husk is a powder that you can find at the health food store. Neither of these things helped my Gypsy with her diarrhea, switching her to a raw diet did and keeping her on a homemade cooked turkey diet has helped her stay fairly "normal". I add pumpkin, bone meal and pure rice bran to her home made diet. Let me know if you'd like me to send you the recipe. It's a major pain in the neck to prepare, but it's worked wonders for Gyps. Since we don't know what's causing Mylo's diarrhea, it's hard to know what diet would be best for him, (or what supps would help him the most). When Gypsy was at her worst, feeding her plain, raw, minced chicken breast helped. When I started adding bone meal, it really firmed things up. I don't know if adding the bone meal did anything to improve the underlying condition, but it did stop the "leakage" problem. Nina

Where can I get Metamucil/psyllium from? Mylo has been eating Medi-Cal hypoallergenic gastro for over a week now because of his diarrhea and internal problems. He has had the diarrhea since Christmas time. He has had to get IV fluids and injections a few times as well.

Everyone on this list is more familiar with FeLV than I am. However, diarrhea can have numerous causes including food allergies (I am very familiar with that from the Royal Princess Kitty Katt) and, despite what many vets believe, they can be developed at any age. Kitty was almost 13 when we started having food allergy problems. If you have not tried adding Metamucil/psyllium (bad spelling) to Mylo's food you should consider it.

You may want to consult an alternative vet too. Dixie Louise sees her regular vets and an alternative vet.

Good luck.

Thanks for your email. My vet did 3 sets of blood work in the last two weeks. Mylo has a high white blood cell count (38) a low red blood cell count (4); he has FeLV and anemia. The vet didn't say what the underlying sickness could be. He just said that Mylo tested positive for FeLV and there is nothing we can do. I am currently trying to see another vet on Mylo's condition. I don't know what's causing Mylo's diarrhea but he has had it for weeks now. He is taking flagyl but it isn't helping. I left a message for my new vet to call me tomorrow so I hope to get some more info.

   Chris,
Sorry you are having these problems, my first concerns are your vet, what did he do to find out what is wrong with your Mylo?? If nothing then if I were you I'd run, not walk to a different vet!!! What did your vet say is wrong with Mylo other than being positive?? FeLV is a virus that compromises the immune system which in turn allows other illnesses to take hold and flourish, it in itself is not what makes cats sick, the other illnesses that can take hold are. Did your vet even test for anything, do any blood work, give you anything for the diarrhea, find out whats causing the diarrhea??
