i don't think that reliable research on that exists.... (remember,
hard to do research on a population you regularly treat with euthanasia.)
what i do know, is that there are no, zip, zilch, nada DOCUMENTED
cases of truly negative cats (ie, cats who were tested at
appropriate intervals using more than just the snap test, more than
once) who were VACCINATED ever turning positive from living closely
with truly positive cats (see above description....) i have heard
some anecdotal stories where vaccinated cats have caught FeLV from
the positive, but there's never been any proof that the cat was
actually negative to start with, just as you say.
if anyone can find me a documented case, i'll be unhappy, but i'd
still like to see it--i find it very interesting that after all
these years, no one's been able to find such documentation......

if anyone out there has any reliable statistics on how many cats
tested negative for FELV,,and then after living with positive kitties
converted i would sure like to know,
i just have this gut feeling that it is so very very few.
i think frequently one cat may be positive and the others never
tested unless they become ill and wow,,,they are positive,,and yet
they may have been positive all their lives but just asymptomatic,
Those are the valuable statistics..those are the statistics that
cause healthy FELV cats to be PTS ( killed)....
most of us here seem to have the experience of no transmission in adult cats,
The only way to be sure is if a cat was once
negative,,,,,,,,THEN became infected,,,and positive,
