Look at his gums and see if they're white rather than pink. That means anemia. Might talk to the vet about that.

Is he breathing heavily? I've had several go from mediatinal lymphoma, and they collect fluid in the chest cavity, causing breathing problems.

Those are the only two ways mine have passed on.
