Susan, Do you mean for shopping for cat food and litter? We get the litter from Target (Fresh Step crystals) and the food from the vet. We have to give prescription food (Science Diet CD) to Bandit, so they all get it. Penelope (baby) gets kitten food as much as we can.
If I need other stuff like toys, Target is good. Otherwise, I order stuff on-line like our hair ball lick stick, cleaning spray, cat nip, etc. I don't give supplements, and I know I probably should, but none of my cats is FeLV+ and all seem to be healthy. Ashley beat a soft poo problem with antibiotics, and Penelope is gaining weight everyday. Just wish her dewormer would run the course and that her system would settle down. Wow does that stink. Question for anyone: Penelope (4 months) was pooping on some linoleum by our front door (not urinating though). So, I moved one of the litter boxes to that spot. She used it fine (after adding a little dirt and other cats' poops). Now I'm trying to move the box downstairs with the others, a little bit at a time since when I moved it to the bottom of the stairs all at once, she didn't use it (used the laminate floor upstairs). This time, I only moved it about a foot, and put it on a rug on the carpet next to the laminated area. No luck. She pooped on the laminate floor. So, I moved the box back to the laminate floor but in a different spot to test. No problem. She used it fine. What's going on? Why won't she go off the flooring? Any suggestions? I can't have a litter box greeting people every time they walk in the front door! We don't have a Petsmart or Petco within 60 miles or so. I guess I'll have to get inventive in this area. We do adoptions @ Petsmart, ofcourse. And we sign up for additional time during the week when there is space available. We list on Craigslist, Petfinder, probably some other places too. Wemakebig postersw/"before & after"photos detailingtheir plight. We have one person who does our "screening" in the Austin area. We are hoping tohave a shelter /group foster home by next spring. That really would help. Susan J. Susan-that is wonderful! Could you tell me what you do for an adoption event? I'm interested for the future when my husband and I hope to run a sanctuary. And, I've got three fosters that need homes now, so any advice on advertising and such would be greatly appreciated. The web just really doesn't work for advertising around here. Thanks, Melissa _____ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Susan Dubose Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 8:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: a bit of happy mews....... Today we finally found time to take 6 of our 12 'Houston hoarder" cats to the clinic for retesting. These cats, if you remember, came from a house of 185 neglected cats. Many of the cats were felv+. I took in 14 to foster, and @ first they were all housed in one large "walk in" size pen. We were testing them 3 @ a time, and the very last cat that we tested, Lillian, came up felv+. Which meant all of the other 13 cats had had a continous exposure to felv for about 3 weeks. In very close quarters. And many of the cats were sick w/ all kinds of problems when we got them, as well as malnourishment. We had pyrometria, URI, mouth ulcers, toe infections, very stressed out geriatrics, megacolon, and one little kitty w/seizures that did not make it....... :( to name some of the problems. Anyway, of the 6 that we tested today, all came back neg/neg after a 4month quarantine. We are planning an adoption event to be held for them, hopefully this weekend,so that they can now start finding permanent mew homes......... :) The other 6 are in a separate pen, and we will be getting their tests performed the first of next week. Please wish them well.......... Susan J.
