Yes, even a positive cat can have a good life. I have 4 positives right not (in
addition to my 2 negatives). They are happy & healthy.

Lorrie, I had a “light” positive on my kitten as well. He did not clear the
virus, but please don’t lose hope. There can still be a better outcome.
Beth is correct! Also, a positive ELISA test must be done no earlier
than 90 days for accuracy after the first test. If it’s still positive, do an
IFA. If the IFA is positive, than the virus is in the bone marrow and the kitty
can’t clear the virus.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Hugs to you and your kitten!
Lynda

An negative IFA does NOT negate a positive Elisa. The IFA simply
means it is in the bone marrow. Once the IFA is positive the cat will not throw
off the virus. I would keep test him again in a few months on the Elisa. If it
is still positive I would test him on the IFA.

Don't just get the IFA, as they are skewed towards false
negatives. ELISAs are skewed towards false positives, so if
you do the IFA, it would be to reconcile with the ELISA.

I don't much trust tests anyway but if you want to get a more accurate test,
in a month do the IFA test on him. I had an adult cat who tested strong
positive. I kept him for 3 months in a separate room, tested again and it was
negative but because he would be mixed in with my many rescues, I had the IFA
test done and it was also negative. Moses has been living with 20 of my
rescues for the past 6 years now.
