I have used Aranesp (Darbepoetin) for a young cat with non-regenerative anemia in kidney crisis. It seems better tolerated by cats than Epogen, and is given less frequently. It isn't cheap, my little vial was $200, but she only actually needed three doses. Two of those were given while she was hospitalized, and 1 here. The vial would have been 10 doses for her, but she was tiny. She has maintained well(Knock On Wood)and will have bloodwork again in December, which is almost a year from onset.
I don't know that it would be effective in non-kidney related anemia.
