I can see that CC would not tolerate the meds. As long as CC is doing fine
w/o them, I think you are right to minimize the stress. You must have done
a wonderful job to get CC back to good health.

CC caught a URI when I took her in to be spayed (and learned she was
positive). She then went through herpes in her eye and was very sick
for quite a while. we "did" eye treatment/specialist, interferon,
immunoregulin, intranasal vaccines for URI's, boosted shots, saw
alternative vet and did vitamins, etc... When she FINALLy got well,
she like tripled in size and has been well since. She now takes
nothing, because I can no longer medicate or even pick her up after all
that trauma. I thought that if I just stopped bothering her for a while
she would get over it, but she hasn't. She still doesn't trust me. :(
I found her living behind coke machines at a K-Mart store and she was
very skittish. I gained her trust, then put her through all that. I
doubt I'll ever get it back since it's been about 4 years ago now that
all that happened.
She will sleep on the bed with me, and come up to be petted sometimes,
but I caught her that way the last 2 times I took her in for yearly
boosters, so she's now skittish about that too. If she get sick, I'll
probably just have to let her go in peace. I can't even trap her like
in the bathroom to put med.s in food, because that's how I trapped her
to go to vet's, give eyedrops, etc... for so many months, that she will
not set foot anywhere near me when I'm handing out canned food!
When I feed all the cats she runs out to eat, but if I look at her or
approach her she runs away. No catching this girl with food anymore.
DD went through a bout of URI as well when I first got her. (I think
she, too, brought it home from the vet's. That's another reason I
won't take mine to get shots twice a year.) I've never had her on
interferon. She got over her infection fairly quickly. Not as fast as
my negatives she gave it to, but nonetheless, it was nothing compared
to what I went through with CC. She's also tripled in size.
They both seem incredibly healthy at this time, and I don't have them
on interferon. I'll put vitamins in everyone's food (antioxidants, C,
and thymus) but that's about it.
Basically, I was so busy with Willy last year and Milly this year, that
I've just been satisfied that my positives were doing all right, and
promised myself that when I have time I'll make a more concerted effort
to get them on interferon.
Basically all my cats are psychotic. People say I have the weirdest
cats they've ever encountered and that it must have something to do
with me! But if I could easily feed them separately, or just get CC to
come to me and take it, I would put them on interferon for sure, and
probably some of the other supplements I've seen on the list.
