Carla,
I'm sorry that Charmed came back positive on the IFA; I was hoping with all
my heart that he had beaten the odds. Still, Charmed may be healthy for
years. That is what we all must hope and pray for. I know that Charmed
couldn't have a better "purrson" than you fighting for him.

Hi Jo,
Welcome to the group. I have been on the group about 8 months.
I foster and one of the cats ended up being sick took him to the vet
turned out he was felv positive. His name is Charmed. The rest of
his siblings are negative. I was as you devasted and partial I guess
because 6 years ago my cat Chewy was let out (not by me) one
time and 3 months later was sick. Brought him to the vet and he
was felv positive. Must of ran into a cat that was felv pos. that one
time. Anyway the rest of my cats (5) were all negative. This group
was not around and sadly Chewy went to the bridge 6 weeks after I
discovered he was positive.
This group I personally think is the reason Charmed has done as
good as he has done. He too was on clavamox for a few weeks
when he was sick. Unfortuately he had his 1st distemper shot
which I am sure didn't help matters. He has tested positve 3 times
on elisa once on IFA. A few weeks ago I had him restested and he
tested negative (or a very weak positive on Elisa! The vet said she
called the test as negative. He was always a strong positive all the
other times. I had to wait over 20 days for the IFA test (used
another lab cos I wanted to test his silva: still waiting for siliva
result).
Unfortunately he came back positive on IFA last week. I didn't post
this till now since there was too many losses of our fur children.
The vet who did the inhouse said he was probably a weak positive
on the elisa since there was a taint of color if you tilted the test and
looked on an angle. My vet I use for my other cats, and the
holistic vet I saw a few months ago feel that he is trying to fight the
virus off since his blood test was so faint. I am continuing all the
supplement that I am using now and hope for the best. The holistic
vet I saw has had luck with felv cats and she had a cat take up to 2
years but became negative the second year. Also some cats never
convert too. So where there is hope I will keep trying.
Personally I feel it's figuring how to build up your cats immune
systems. What works for one may not another the trick is to find
out what it is. (Don't we all wish we could figure that out).
Be careful about babyfood. Make sure there is not onion in it.
Onion can make a cat anemic and with a cat with a immune
problem that's the last thing you want to do.
Once again welcome to the group.
Carla
