We always joke around that it would probably be easier
to adopt a human baby than to get a dog/cat out of our
shelter! We actually turn down people all the time.
We've had people yell at the adoption counselors and
throw fits when they are turned down. Nothing surprises
us anymore... Can you imagine a person coming in and
saying that the coyotes keep killing their cats and they
want another one... or how about giving us the biggest
cat you have so he has a better chance of fighting off
the coyotes! Oh sure... no problems, how about 2 cats
then you can have a backup????

Jill, that's exactly how it is with my adoptions. And the longer you do it,

the more you worry. Frankly, my little group (5 of us) are all pretty much
at the point that we hardly dare adopt any out any more, but we feel guilty
because we don't want the cats we have to be stressed by overcrowding, and
we
hate not to have room to rescue more. It's a dilemma, but I don't want them

coming back when I'm 70 or 75 years old, so I try to be extra particular up
front.
