Lots of prayers going out to the new furangel and the new babies.  I am sure Mittens and all our fur angels were there to greet Caressa at the bridge.

It is with a very heavy heart that I must ask Belinda to put Caressa on
Monday's memorials.  We lost her today at about 10:30 a.m. when she began
seizuring at the vet's shortly after she was started on her daily IV's. We
aren't sure why, but she had developed ascites (fluid in her chest/abdomen)
and her potassium had suddenly jumped above normal.  Robin was in tears and
not sure if she could bear to see her, but I encouraged her to do so, fearing
she would feel later that she wasn't there for her at the end (she last saw
her two days ago).  Amy had put her in a pretty quilt in a little box and she
looked very peaceful, and Robin said afterwards it wasn't as bad as she
feared and she was glad she got to be with her.  We are letting her be
necropsied to find out what was going on so that it might help other kitties
in the future.  Then she will be cremated.

We also need prayers for three deformed babies born to a mama cat who already
just had a litter in December.  I helped the people get their male cat
neutered, and the Spay-Neuter Association gave them a free spay certificate
for the female, yet they didn't get around to fixing her. The first baby was
either stillborn or died shortly after birth; the second has NO FRONT LEGS -
I don't know yet what it's prognosis will be; the third and fourth have
s"flipper" - lone front leg without  properly formed paw or toes, and only
half a leg on the other side.  They wouldn't or couldn't nurse at first - no
legs and paws to knead with or support themselves on at the breast, but with
our help they began to suck - not sure, however, whether they were getting
anything or not.  We are going back shortly to see if any more were born and
whether or not they are nursing properly.

Has anyone ever heard of a cat without front legs?  I am going to ask Best
Friends if they've had one.
