Hi all,

I'm afraid to say it too soon... but I "think" the rat is gone! I did away with the dog food on the back porch and dried up the water supply, and closed off all entranceways except the one the dogs use. I haven't heard anything in nearly a week now..... I bought a trap so I'm prepared.... but I hope I don't have to deal with trapping and releasing.

Thank you all so much for your advice. This link from Julie was especially good. I'm saving it for next time....

Fingers, toes and paws crossed,

Hi Tonya,

I'd strongly discourage poisoning; it's really a horrible way to die and
there's always the chance that an animal who the poison is not intended for
will get it or eat the dead rat.

Here's a link:

http://www.livingwithwildlife.org/aboutus/index.html

from the MSPCA hospital that Paulie has been going to for his corneal
ulcer. You just click on the bottom of the page to choose the wild critter
you're having a problem with and they give humane suggestions about how to
encourage them to relocate.

Hope it helps!

Julie
