Hi, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. On the island of Alameda. The
rabies & license thing for cats is a city thing. In this area rabid
animals are almost unheard of. The reason for the license was to get cat
people to pay their fair share of the local shelter expenses. Dog owners
were complaining. In the state you can not get a license without a
rabies shot. There was a big turnout at
City Hall when this came before the Sup. board. We cat people went along
with it. This was about 8yrs ago and everyone was good at first then it
just kind of died along the way and it is not enforced. Only a couple of
Vets here make you do it if you want to be their client....so goes it
also we are very lucky that very few animals are put down at our
shelter(pound) some have been there 4+ mos.
