Karolyn, I'm truly sorry to hear about your Coco. It sounds like you gave her a good 10 years of life. I think that's great. My philosophy is to make them as happy as possible for the long (or short) time they are on this earth. I personally think these kitties are the sweetest, most grateful ones. I wouldn't want to tackle a whole positive litter again, but feel that I've learned a whole lot about cats during my experience with them
God bless you for what you do! As many of you know I often send "Reply" messages that I have mixed my Neg. & Pos. for many yrs. and had never had a Neg. turn Pos. after they came out with the vaccine against Felv. Over 3 weeks ago she became very sick with an URI. I had to take her to the Vet where she had Meds. & IV's. On a Mon. morning he called that I could pick her up and bring her home. I was unable to pick her up until Tue. He called me Mon. afternoon and said she had reverted and not to pick her up. I was able to bring her home on Fri. and she was fine for a couple of days then back to the vet. More IV's, not eating, etc. About every 4 days she would appear to be OK then she would revert again. A Blood Panel was done and other various test and every thing came back with "Glowing Colors". We were at a loose as to what was going on. So off to a Specialist I took her. Before she got sick she was over weight and there was not enough loose skin to "Scruff her" By this last Fri her skin was just hanging on her so I was scared she might get a Fatty Liver. It turn out she was Pos. in her Bone Marrow and there was no way of knowing how many yrs. she had been Pos. Every test she had ever had always came back Neg. And in all those 10yrs. she had never been sick a day. She was so far gone she had to be helped over the bridge. She was a Feral when I got her , at 6mos. of age. It took 4 yrs before she would let ne touch her. The last 2yrs she would get up on the table and But Heads with me 3 or 4 times a day. and every morning when I got up she would run into the bedroom in front of my feet (I am wheelchair bound) and would not move until I patted her several times and a couple of mos. ago she climbed up on the bed to sleep with me. I have a very high bed and she was to fat to leap on it. I could hear her climbing up the bedding to get there. She still would not let me pick her up. The last time she had to go to the vet I sat her carrier on the floor and she ran into it.
