I feed canola blend oil to my horses during the winter.  My oldest cat, who 
accompanies me to the barn every morning, licks the measuring cup clean.  He 
never has not had a hairball in the winter since he started doing that.  The 
only time of the year he does not have one.  My other cats don't like canola 
oil the way Simba does.

Canola oil blend might be worth trying if you can get your cat to like it.  
It is rich in vitamin e too.

Laxastat works well also.  I give Patches a little every day, which cuts 
down
a lot on the amount she pukes from hair balls.
