Hi. You will get lots of responses and information! Of course there
are things you can do. The first would probably be to try to find a different
vet in your area, one who is more familiar and comfortable with treating cats
with FeLV. I give my four FeLV+ cats immune supplements mixed in baby food
every morning. I give them Immugen (available from holistic vets), CoQ10,
and slippery elm, and a vitamin mix called Feline Essentials. I also alternate
between putting a homeopathic immune support in their drinking water and putting
non-alcoholic echinacea tincture in their water. Finally, I give interferon
orally to two of my cats, the ones who do not mind being syringed every
day. It stresses the other two out so I do not do it with them. The
very most important thing is keeping them stress-free, since stress weakens
their immune systems.
When they get colds, I add crushed lysine tablets to their baby food
in the morning. If that does not work in a day or two, I put them on
antibiotocs, usually doxicycline although that is not what is usually
recommended for colds (Clavamox is, but I find dox works better with my
positives).
Everyone on this list believes in feeding good nutrition, so finding a
local pet food store that sells healthier foods (less grains, no by-products)
would be a good idea. If there are none, you can order online from distributer
companies like Waggin Tails.
