Hello All!

I'm just curious...does anyone here have a cat (or cats) with "sensitive nails?"  I've never had a problem clipping our cats' nails...that is, until I tried to clip Lola's nails about a month ago!  I kid you not, I'm convinced that she faked a fainting spell just so I would let her go!  She did great after I clipped the first nail, but as I went for a second nail, she screamed bloody murder and acted as though she would pass out right there in my arms!  I was so upset I almost cried thinking, "Oh my god, I've hurt my baby..."  But as I set her down, she kind of looked around and proceeded to start wrestling the nearest cat!  I thought, "Okay, she's obviously not going to bleed to death," so I picked her up to inspect her nail (expecting the worst) only to discover that I had barely scored the nail no where near the quick!  Immediately I presumed that I had a little drama queen on my hands...but every time I so much as touch her paw, she tenses up and I just don't have the nerve to go any further!

Fortunately, we purposefully don't buy expensive furniture (not that we could afford it anyhow) simply because we can predict its fate after being exposed to 6 cats over a period of time...so we really don't care what she does to the furniture (despite the fact that we've got several monstrous cat trees hanging around...one I even built myself!)...and she's quite good about the "claw vs. skin" scenario so I don't think clipping her nails is an absolute necessity to the point of having her tranquilized just to do the deed...but I'm really curious as to whether some cats just have more sensitive nails than others?

Thanks for letting me think outloud...I've had a glass of wine so I'm starting to feel a little existential... ;)

But if you tame me, then we shall meet each other.
To me, you will be unique in all the world...
To you, I shall be unique in all the world...
You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed...
