Thank goodness you have a decent vet clinic where all the staff understand how important our pets are. Kerry

There never is much composure.  Thankfully the people at my vet and even my emergency vet are very compassionate and thoughtful in their treatment of me.
When I took Kelly to the emergency vet I knew she hadn't made the ride in the car.  I went in and tried to stay as cool as I could because there were some kids in the waiting room.  When everything was done one of the receptionists came up to me, appologized for wanting to ask me a question at such a difficult time and told me she had just taken in a cat with leukemia and she was wondering my thoughts on their possibility for life.  She actually was a bright spot in that very awful evening.
I told her she was the first person I had ever met - besides my aunt - in person who had taken in a cat with leukemia.  And I actually talked with her for a few minutes.
The office was sent a very nice letter about her.

I hate that you had to go through that, Rachel, but I guess it's a small comfort that at least your vet listened to you and changed their policy.
(I have all this yet to come, and I don't hold out much hope for my composure.....)

Barbara,
I know how you feel.  Its just awful.
Mittens was the very first cat I lost and I opted to have him cremated.  Having never done that before my vet's office was very nice and helped me fill out the paperwork.  I didn't realize that their remains were shipped UPS or FEDEX or whatever and I had the option of having the remains delivered to my vet or my home.  I decided if that was how it was handled I'd prefer the delivery come to my home.
It was going on about 3 weeks with no delivery so I phoned my vet and they were making some calls.  They said he should be delivered that day or the next.
I arrived home and there was a sticky note on my door from FEDEX requiring a signature.  I signed it and figured my Mittens would be home the next day.  The next day, no packaged and the note was still on my door.  The following day I phoned FEDEX about the package and they tell me that all of a sudden they have changed their policy and won't deliver to a home without someone to answer the door and sign for the package.  I lost it and started crying and yelling at the woman on the other end of the phone.  and I finally couldn't take it anymore and I yelled "You don't realize that package has my cat's ashes in it!".  She finally agreed to get the package delivered to my vets office instead of my home (since we are both in the same delivery area) even though it was against the rules.
I talked to my vet's office and they never give their patients the option of home-delivery anymore.

I'm so sorry. I just need someone to talk to since my husband is out of town. I've been waiting for Jelly's ashes to come back-to get a call from the vet that they had his ashes back--adn I really thought I was handling his passing well--giving lots of attention to the other animals here but last night I looked aat the calendar and ralized, what th eheck where is he already?  I called the crematory this morning and they said he went to the specialists vet--called there--no cat. then thought let me try my regular vet jsut in case. well after searching yes they did have him since nov. 13th. no one called, the woman I just spoke to didn't even say "im sorry. I called the crematory to get whose signature is on the receiving form and will have to have a very painful discussion with the vets at my regular vet's office concerning this so no one else has to go thru this anguish. I will also be informing them (the office that has the records of ! ! my 8 pets)since my original vet had left their practice to open his own a fewmonths ago before this all happened (but I had stayed at first office because there is another good vet there)that I will be changing vets. thank god for the specialists' reception who just talked to me for 10 minutes and listened to me cry and comforted me. I know jelly's really playing in fields chasing his big sister and Lenny his adopted sister at the bridge but I still needed to have him back. sorry for typos and whatever i'm typing this without my contacs in. thanks for listening and being there.
barbara and angel Jelly Roll
