Kerry,
Thank you for the post about Snoball and diarrhea. I have been giving Gypsy boiled and pureed chicken breast and rice for about two weeks. I haven't seen any results and was starting to get discouraged about whether or not it was helping. I had no idea I might have to keep her on it for months! I'll also cut out all the supplements, except the probiotics, (she's neg but I add them to her food when I do everyone else's).

Trina, my FeLV Snoball had diarrhea (where he couldn't get to the litter box in time) on and off for several months earlier this year. Vet recommended I switch to broiled boneless skinless chicken and stop the supplements (I was giving 13 mins and vits) and try and work out thru elimination what the prob was. So I broiled and pureed chicken breast for those months and gradually added the supps back. (VERY expensive, because they all had to have it, of course. If they weren't feral, I would have isolated him and his buddy Caramel in my bedroom to save the $$$.)

It seemed to be the Wellness dry food ultimately that set him off, which was a treat they used to get to liven up their wet diet.

Snoball--dare I say it--has had no diarrhea since August/September. His diet is almost what it was pre-diarrhea stage. I even give him Wellness dry too, and have added Vit C (which I never gave him before) which as we know can trigger (if that's the correct word?) diarrhea.

It's a bit of a mystery now what the cause really was.
All I can say is that he was on a broiled chicken diet (with vits and mins added back most of the time) for many months off and on, ie whenever the diarrhea recurred. And now he's ok and I've been able to get the diet back to what it was.

It was well worth the effort. That's my 2 cents' worth---good luck! Kerry

Tad, I just wanted to say you are so wonderful to have so many FELV+ kitties. I hope you might be able to answer some questions about how you keep them separated. I have two fosters that are positive and my other six are not. So far they are kept in my bedroom but I would like to build something that they can roam around in without being in contact with the rest of my herd.

What do you do about the diarrhea? One of my positives has had it for almost two weeks. I took her to the vet and after a stool sample analysis they told me nothing was wrong. I am not impressed with the vets out here as it is, but that kind of did it for me. All they suggested was white rice. I am feeding her a teaspoon of pure pumpkin and steamed white rice along with some cooked chicken for now. She seems to be getting a little better but I can’t let her out of the bathroom just yet.

I would appreciate any recommendations you can offer. I wanted to find a home for the fosters but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen any time soon. I just wish I had more time to spend with them.

Trina
