By the way there is one other cat that has FeLV now and she is recieving Interferon every other week...all others and fine.   Thank you Cherie   Hi Cherie, So sorry to hear about Snowball, and that you have found us at such a sad time for you..this virus is extremly unfair..it can strike in an instance , or linger on forever...however....the FeLV test does not include testing platelets and white cell counts..., so Im not sure if mabey you misunderstood your vet, or what?  Mabey she ran a FeLV test, AND a regualr blood panel and those values were high as well?  If those values were high..esspecially the white blood cells it only means he was fighting some sort of infection..which COULD have been the FeLV..but I would think more along the lines of a bacterial infection....so I would think he should have been put on antibiotics..BUT Im not a vet..just personal experiance...Your vet seems to be..from what you said about her wanting to put him on supplements adn the Interferon...fairly educate about FeLV..so perhaps you misunderstood her..or mabey jsut typed it wrong?   Anyways..my point is that YES the virus can rear its ugly head in such a quick and detrimental way.  If it had attacked his bone marrow as you say she suggested then it is possible he has been positive for a long while..but just had it sequestered (hidden) in his bone marrow..and was not shedding the virus..therfore he would have been negative on any previous tests....Has there been any unusual, or stressful activities goingon at your house as of late..mabey with the holidays, stress is the biggest factor..next to infections..that "reanimates" the virus from being inactive.  I hope some of this has been helpful, and I shall pray for you and your son.  It is so hard to loose them at any time..but when it is so unexpected and unexplained..it is very hard   Lisa and fur-brats Akira--FeLV miracle baby www.geocities.com/anzajaguar Indy-- Truley Indian Jones as a cat..FEARLESS Lance- Mini wire haired dashchund Bow-Tie- 2yr old (ssshhhh he doesnt know he is 15 :) ) jack russel cross Bennie Bird-- Vampire cockatiel Anza-- sexist Senegal parrot..deffinantly a ladies bird :)
