Tonya, thank you for the good wishes.  I've been such a fanatic about the promise of VO, I truly believe it is a wonderful weapon in our arsenal against FeLV.  I'm so terribly frustrated about the difficulty in getting it, and the cost involved.  If it were something that we could all just order and try, we'd know a lot more about how much it helps.

Michelle, where are you in the dispensation process?  Has your VO been ordered yet?  We don't even know if Simon would benefit from the feline interferon at this point, but I sure would like to see if it might help him.

I heard some distressing news about the FDA and special dispensations.  Apparently, the FDA lawyers have put a moratorium on veterinary dispensations.  I didn't talk to the FDA directly, of course, my vet's office did.  I don't even know if this is public information or not.  For some reason, the lawyers aren't sure that the FDA should be granting dispensations for vet purposes.  I don't know who else should be doing it if not that agency.  Perhaps as I'm writing this, it's already been resolved, I certainly hope so.  Anyone who has applied for a dispensation should contact their vet and have them check on it.  We had already gotten approval and ordered it, so didn't have a problem, (at least not this time).

My VO, that had already been ordered, came in yesterday afternoon.  I'll have enough for the full 5 days and won't have to skip any days.  Jazz is still less energetic than usual, but is feeling much better.  My husband reported to me that when he took the kittens out for supervised backyard time, she jumped the fence and scared the stuffing out of him.  I'm sure he was imagining my face when I got home, if he had to tell me Jazz was lost!  Happily he found her safe and sound.  The point is she feels good enough to be naughty!

Here's a short update about what's been going on at our house:

Last Thursday Grace had been feeling badly, I've already posted about
her quick recovery the next day. On Friday Jazz (my other +) started
acting lethargic. Jazz did not bounce back the following day the way
Grace did. I can only wonder if it has to do with the different
protocols I used on Grace and Jazz. Grace was given a larger initial
dose when we began because she was so sickly and Jazz's only symptoms
had been slight gingivitis. By Sunday, Jazz hadn't eaten anything for
two days, and hadn't left her bed except to go to the litter box. Okay,
here comes the panic. Neither one had a temp, or was congested. Jazz
seemed like she might be a little nauseous, and achy. I only had three
days worth of VO left from the previous phase of feline interferon
dosing (the pr! otocol says 5 days of dosing). I've been waiting for my
next shipment. It was suppose to be here around the 13th. It's still
not here. On Saturday I decided to start them on the SQ shots and hope
that the last two days of dosage would get here in time. I figured at
this point some was better than none. Apparently I was right. Jazz
still feels crummy, but has begun to eat and today she's moving around
again, (although still sleeping allot). The VO does seem to be an
excellent way to boost their immune systems. If the new shipment
doesn't get here by tomorrow, (I have one more dose left for today), I
pray that it will have been enough. I'll keep you guys informed.

It would be wonderful if this stuff worked on an "as needed" basis. It
lasts 24 months in the fridge, and if we could just give them a dose or
two and have them respond, it would be a lot more cost efficient.

Say a prayer for my girls,
Nina
