Johannes, Thank you again. Setting the " default UMFPACK_DIR=/hpc/apps/SLES/3.0/x86_64/FEniCS/1.4.0" and changing the petsc to petsc-hpc in the platform file was the magic I needed. I also had to change the "--with-umfpack-include" setting in the petsc-hpc.package file.
Everything has compiled through ScientificPython. Although I did have to download the ScientificPython-2.8.tar.gz through a browse and place it in the download directory. I apparently am not properly set up for "git". Fiat will not download via dorsal.sh. I did the download through a browser, placed the file in the download directory, then changed "fiat" to "fiat-stable" in the platform file. I did the last step because the checksum matched. Unfortunately, I am getting the following error: fiat-stable.package is not properly formed. Please check that all necessary variables are defined. So I am stuck again. This will be something to ponder tomorrow. Thanks again for all of your help. You will also have to help PETSc find your SuiteSparse installation instead of building its own (as is done in petsc.package in Dorsal). The easiest would probably be to switch to the petsc-hpc.package, assuming you have defined UMFPACK_DIR as above.
