Fibernetters,
In reconditioning a fleece for carding or spinning use
plain water. It will control the static electricity and moisten
the fibers so the elasticity will return. This will result in
less breakage during carding, the fibers will slide by each other
easier. Same applies to spinning. Use about 1 oz sprayed on for 1
lb of clean dry fiber. Let sit in a bag overnight and spin the
fiber the next day. This allows the moisture to reabsorb into the
fibers and makes them more elastic. Reduces the static
electricity too.
The chemicals and vegetable oils will leave a residue on the
fibers and make them tacky. The commercial spinning oils, we use
recondtion the fibers, but do not leave them tacky, even after
sitting around for several months. They wash out with warm water
and soap.
