Hi,...Have been reading all the stuff recently about the FM disease in the
Uk. Feel tremendous sympathy for the poor farmer over there. Would dread
it happening here. However, I have some practical questions about fleeces.
Some of us have gotten fleeces from those over there and that is just what I
HAD been planning on doing. However, I have sheep or my own, wouldn't want
to run any risks that could harm them. Does anyone know how long after this
FM thing is settled that it will be safe to bring in a fleece to the USA?
When purchasing a fleece from say the British wool Board, or even an
independent producer, can one be assured that is not contaminated? How long
can the virus live on a shorn fleece? It takes several weeks to arrive here
on surface transport would that be sufficient time for the virus to die?
Would it be better to wait a year or so before thinking about getting a UK
fleece? I would like to know.
Thanks,
Barbara
