Dee Dee, I agree with you 100% that the cover sweater was ugly. And
while I have to say the yarn's consistency was amazing--I certainly
can't spin anything that regularly at that size--I was really
disappointed it wasn't commercial yarn like it looked. I like to test
my skills by matching commercial yarns, but ONLY for tiny samples! For
a whole project, I'm going to DESIGN that yarn so it says HANDSPUN!

That's interesting--it was the first article by Rita Buchanan I was
disappointed in :) I find there's a significant difference between
woolen and worsted yarns, and it's really a shame to have such an
influential writer basically knock the stuffing out of some good, if
old, terms.
Oh well--it's funny, but I've found both Spin-Off and Handwoven to be
increasingly disappointing over the last year. I can't really pinpoint
the reason. I don't have time to go over them issue by issue. But
nothing inspires me any more, so much of the designs in both mags seem
blah and technically unsophisticated. Sigh.
