I've had good luck with soaking for 15 minutes, extremely hot temp.,
spin out, soak again, .... doing this three or four times.  Use this technique
with our merino and rambouillet.
No.  Haven't felted one yet.  I remove the wool, cover it while filling
machine with hot water for the next soak.
