Hi Jeannette,
I have successfully dyed extra fine Merino 90's top without
it falling apart or anything. I use Lanaset dyes (an acid dye) with
the oven method. I soak the top on a large rectangular pyrex dish
with warm water and vinegar, making sure all the top is wet. I pour
off the soaking liquid, leaving the top in the pan. Then comes the
fun part, pouring or squirting assorted dissolved dye colors and
mashing them in the top to make sure it goes thru it. Finally I
"cook" it in the oven on a warm setting for 1hr. and voil� colorful
merino top :-). I have also dyed silk bells and top by the same
method, and it worked great.
