Greetings all, I am a lurker to the list and have learned many usefull things. I am new to plant dyeing and would be glad to read your thoughts. I was boiling down a pot of polkberries when some boiled out on the top of the stove. I sprayed it with my homemade cleaner, consists of: 1 pint lemon amonia, 1 pint rubbing alchol, & 1 teaspoon lemon Dawn. The magentia color of the juice changed from red purple to blue purple.
I thought it was the amonia, so I dipped some strands of clean wool into amonia and let them dry, then dipped them into the juice. Nothing happened. I never got to try the alchol because I had an emergency and had to freeze the dye bath. Has anyone else had this experience or any thoughts that might lead to a repeatable color?
