Hi Dana, It took several rinses - I mean, lots of rinses to get the dye out. And the water was still pinkish but I was tired and so I called it done. I am knitting some of the yarn now into a sweater.
Before I began the sweater, I took a length of the maroon yarn and a length of yellow yarn, tied them together and gave them a good hot soapy bath. Dried them on a white paper towel with no bleeding. The yarn had sat for several months after dyeing but whether this had any effect, I don't know. I am told that the color is reasonably lightfast, especially in indoor light. Someone else said that her pokeweed dyed wool "mellowed" over time, but was still red/purple and another friend had woven her pokeweed dyed wool into a pillow top which hadn't faded much after several years. Of course, your mileage may vary. Nancy in southern Indiana Dana Foss wrote: > How color fast will this be? Will it bleed when washed? Fade in sunlight?
