Greetings to the List, Thank you to every one who sent information. This List is a wonderful resource! After reading your letters, I thought I'd provide more clues.
I picked the berries when they were dead ripe. As I picked, I planted, so next year there will be more. Then I put the berries in a white enameled pot. It was a two quart pot and I had more berries than that, so I kept mashing them down with the potato masher untill I got them all in the pot. (Don't worry, we don't eat mashed potatoes any more.) I left the stems on the berries and covered them with bottled water. I boiled & simmered the berries, ( I coulden't get the stove to stay on simmer), untill the berries looked faded. Then I turned off the stove and left the pot to cool overnight. The next day I strained the dye and then ultimately froze it. This dye was magenta! Two later batches I made were brown. Maybe next year I will try a different burner on the stove. But when I sprayed cleaner on that bubling hot juice, It immediately turned a lovely dark Plum. I liked it much better that magenta. It was almost magical. Niki To stop mail temporarily mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: set nomail To restore send: set mail
