It's such a mess..... I'd spun up some pound of New Zealand wool of unknown breed, most of it in sported weight for a pullover, some worsted weight for socks. The yarn was beautiful, cushy and the blend of colors looked great. I prepared the skeins, tied them up in 5 places, put them in a pillowcase - and into the washing machine at 100�F (40�C) and with detergent for wool.
I got some lovely felted skeins of one color, shrunk to one third of the size I saw them last before and the only thing they're useful is to enrich our compost-heap. It's not that I'm angry about time and money-waste - I don't know if I ever want to spin (this sort of) wool again.....
