I do remember Laura's veil, now that you mention it, Holly. It sounds like
a great project, and the wimple idea, too. I'd be interested to hear how
you make out, and perhaps even see pictures? The windchill here doesn't
usually get really ferocious, but my ears get cold easily even under my
hair, and when the wind gets into them, I get instant earaches/sore throats,
etc. Still trying to find a hat style I like that my limited knitting
abilities can handle. My handspun purple monster covers my ears (and
eyes.....) and is certainly WARM (part Samoyed), but it's absolutely huge,
and apparently its Sam has prevented it from doing much fulling. I think I
tried to 'unknit' it a couple of years ago, but found it had felted just
enough to make that tricky, and I didn't want to damage the yarn. It's also
very itchy, because I didn't sort out enough of the hair vs. the down.
Lesson learned. But it is quite magnificent, in spite of all that. It's
probably more of a structure than a garment!
