Being a big Lord of the Rings fan, i would like to hear the
background on this - I must have missed it!

Oh, I've just had this dream for years of making a handspun cloak. Not exactly a practical garment, because a) I don't belong to any reenactment groups, or have any events to wear a cloak to, and b) I live in Florida. But what the heck--I wants one! And about the time I was being totally enthralled with Peter Jackson's re-interpretation of the book into a movie, an article came out in Spin-off about the people who had woven the fabric for the Lothlorien cloaks in the movie. I ordered the fleece from them and have been spinning ever since.

I'm now at the "fear of committment" phase. I was going to use the undulating twill from Davison's book--but that has floats up to 5 threads long. I just wound a warp for a set of dishtowels last night so I can try out a few more patterns. And *then* I'll put the cloak warp on (Ann now has to lie down with a cool cloth on her forehead, just thinking about it . . .)
