The article in SO about the Stansbourough Gotland sheep is in the Spring
2002 issue, page 34.  It just barely mentions the use of the wool in The
Lord of the Rings.

Speaking of which, I was so disappointed in The Two Towers that I spent
most of the movie looking at the closeups of the cloaks, of which there
were many :)  It is an undulating twill like Ann is considering for her
cloak.  The cloth looked like it was sett quite openly, given the amount
of light visible through it, and that would also contribute to the
wonderful drape.  The yarn must have been quite fine, as the pattern is
only just visible even when the closeup is very close up.
